Greetings,

Here's the information we found on the Irish name "Ailinn."

We could only find two references to this name. One is from the tale of "Baile and Ailinn," and the other is a saint named "Ailind ingen Eogain Aidhne." Legendary names and the names of saints were often created from fiction, so based on this evidence we can't say that it was used by real people. On the other hand, we can't absolutely rule out the possibility. Still, we would not recommend this name.

Your letter mentioned "many sources of Irish mythology" containing this name. Could you let us know where else you found this name? Other mythological references to "Ailinn" may provide evidence which will let us say more definitively whether "Ailinn" was used by real people or not.

Tangwystl verch Morgant Glasvryn and Talan Gwynek contributed to this letter.

We hope this has been helpful, and that we can continue to assist you.

In service,
Alan Fairfax
