Here's the information we found on the Gaelic name "Callaghan."
"Callaghan" is the Anglicized form of the Gaelic name "O/ Ceallacháin" (where "á" is an accented "a"). This name means "(male) descendant of Ceallachán." (1) If you're interested in genealogical research, you should be aware that modern Irish women often use "Ní Cheallacháin." The "Ní" is a contraction of the older "inghean uí," meaning "daughter of the (male) descendant of."

We hope this has been helpful.
