Greetings,

Here's the information we have on your desired Irish name, "Conmaol O'Maolmhoicheirghe."

It appears that "Conmaol" was used only in very early period--it most likely fell out of use by 700. The best spelling for this period is "Conmáel." (1)

Irish spelling conventions changed around the year 1000. If "Conmáel" had been used after 1000, its spelling probably would have changed to "Conmaol." However, since it appears that it wasn't used that late, we recommend the early spelling "Conmáel."

We found the spelling "ua Maelmocheirgi" in a collection of early-period names, and we would recommend using it. (2)

Thus, the spelling "Conmáel ua Maelmocheirgi," which is appropriate from about 400 to 700, is the one we recommend for your name.

Tangwystl verch Morgant Glasvryn, Arval Benicoeur, and Talan Gwynek contributed to this letter.

We hope this has been helpful, and that we can continue to assist you.

Alan Fairfax
