Some of the Academy's early reports contain errors that we haven't yet corrected. Please use it with caution.

Greetings from the Academy of Saint Gabriel!

You asked if the words <Luna> and <Sea> have ever been combined in a surname. Here is what we have found.

Before I start, I should explain the purpose of the Academy. Our goal is to assist Society participants in choosing names and armory that are historically appropriate to the cultures they are trying to re-create. The results of our research can be used as documentation for registration with the College of Arms, but documenting submissions is not our focus. If you would like our help choosing a name to fit a particular culture, we will be happy to do what we can.

We found no evidence that period surnames were constructed in the manner. Because <luna> is derived from Latin and <sea> from Old English, a compound of the two is unlikely.

There are name elements in various languages which sounds something like <luna> or <sea>; if you would like to choose a historically correct name which preserves the sound of <luna-see> and you are willing to fit your persona to the name, then please write us again and we'll offer some suggestions.

I am sorry we could not help you. I was assisted in researching and writing this letter by Tangwystyl verch Morgant Glasvryn.

For the Academy,

Arval Benicoeur
