Greetings from the Academy of St. Gabriel
You asked for documentation assistance with the name <Seraphina> in 13th
-14th century
Scotland. Here is what we have found.
There was a Saint Seraphina (usually referred to as Saint Fina) who lived
in Italy during the 13th
century [1]. The masculine name <Seraphin> is found in 9th century
France[2], and a feminine
version of this, <Seraphine>, would be plausible. There was a Russian
Saint Serafima who was
a 2nd century martyr [3]. The registered name you refer to, <Seraphina
Aglaia>, appears to be
Greek.
Unfortunately, we have found no evidence that this name was available in 13th or 14th century Scotland, and we recommend that you avoid it if you want to set your persona in that time and place.
We hope this is of help to you. Please contact us again if you have any
questions or need further
clarification. Research for this letter was provided by Talan Gwynek,
Arval Benicoeur,
Margaret Makafee and Elisabeth de Rossignol.
