Greetings,

Here's the information we found on "Aurelie," which you wanted to use as a French name from between 1450 and 1600.

"Aurelie" is derived from the Roman name "Aurelia." (1) We found the name "Aurelia" used in France at some time before the 10th century, and the related man's name "Aurelius" in the 6th and 9th century. (2) It is highly likely that "Aurelia" was modifided to "Aurelie" some time around the 10th to 13th centuries. We don't have any direct evidence that it was used between 1450 and 1600, but based on similar names we think that it is likely that it was used at least occassionally.

It turns out that "Aurelie" and "Aurelle" aren't actually related; "Aurelle" is a last name based on a place. (3)

Talan Gwynek, Arval Benicoeur, Teceangl Bach, AElfwyn aet Gwyrum, and Margaret MacDuibhsidhe contributed to this letter.

We hope that this has been helpful, and that we can continue to assist you.
