You asked for information on as a 12th century English masculine given name or surname. We have found examples of the given name , the Latinised form of , in England in 1159 and 1166. We also found an in 1214. [1] Since inherited surnames such as we use today were very rare this early in our period, the latter example is most likely as patronymic byname, identifying the bearer as the daughter of a man named Morgan. So would certainly be an authentic masculine given name or patronymic byname for 12th century England. We hope this letter has been helpful. Please write us again is you have any more questions or if any of this letter has been unclear.
