Academy of Saint Gabriel Working Bibliography

Revised 24Aug2009.
Maintained by Aryanhwy.

This bibliography lists books that the Academy has used in its research, and books that we've encountered and think we might use in the future. There are other useful bibliographies on the web.

Entries are grouped by language/country, and then are alphabetized by the name of the first author. Non-SCA authors are listed by surname, Society authors by Society given name. When there is no author, the author is listed as --. When there are several entries by the same author, there is sometimes a "default" source that we mean when we only give the author's name as a source. These defaults are marked with [*]. If there's a word in there, i.e. [*Origines], it is a keyword to help searching. Comments are included between parentheses in italics, e.g. (default for personal names). Some web sources that we used to cite are no longer available; these are marked with [*].

On the mailing list, we often refer to sources by abbreviations, e.g. O'C&M for O Corrain and Maguire's Irish Names. These abbreviations are included as keywords for searching. You can find most of them in the members' guide.

The easiest way to find a source is to use this search tool. Enter any keyword (author's name, a word in the title, the standard abbreviation the Academy uses for the source, etc.).

Report best or all matches.

Book titles are denoted with _ ... _, to represent underlining. Article titles are quoted. Diacritical marks and other characters outside simple ASCII are represented as follows:

a*    represents   the Swedish a-with-circle
a: represents ä
a/ represents á
a\ represents à
a^ represents â
{a,} represents a letter with a comma-shaped hook hanging beneath it
{a^} represents a-hacek, a little 'v' over the letter, used in some Eastern European languages
{ae} represents æ
o| represents ø
{l/} represents the Polish slashed l
n~ represents ñ
{dh} represents ð
{th} represents þ
