Greetings from the Academy of Saint Gabriel! You asked our help with a name or arms. We'll be happy to help you, but we want to be sure that you want the help that we can offer. The Academy is a group of volunteers who are interested in the names and heraldry of pre-modern cultures. We help people, generally members of the Society for Creative Anachronism and other medieval re-enactment groups, to choose names and arms that are authentic for the cultures they want to re-create. The Academy is not affiliated with the SCA College of Arms and is not involved in its submission process. Our work can often be used to support a submission, but that's not our focus. Our standards are different from the College's, and our result may be incompatible with the College's needs. We focus primarily on authenticity and may ignore the College's other concerns. If your main interest is to register the name or arms that you've chosen, then the Academy probably isn't the best group to help you. You should contact the submissions heralds in your kingdom. You may want to write to your kingdom's heraldic mailing list. You can find the mailing list for your kingdom at http://www.sca.org/heraldry/kingdoms.html . If you have already decided what name or arms you want to use and you have no interest in changing it based on our research to make it more authentic, then again we probably can't help you. Our service is intended primarily for people interested in choosing and using names and arms that are as authentic as possible. If you'd like our evaluation of the authenticity of your name and arms and our help in choosing a name and arms that fits your culture, then please write us again and we'll be happy to help. We'll hold onto your original note until we hear from you again.
