The current version is 2.53. The list of changes is available here. Owners of previous versions, please contact The ARM Club for an upgrade, which will be almost free (note that the ARM Cub have not yet adopted this version since the manual needs changing, etc...).
This will allow you to save any number of CD listings but will only identify the first five in the list. Download the demo as a 200K Spark file by clicking here.
Note that this is not a replacement for the freeware program !SmartCD, this is a restricted demo and can only identify the first 5 CDs in the catalogue. Don't delete your freeware version unless you buy the full version of !SmartCD+ and import your catalogues. If you're happy with the old !SmartCD then you don't need this new program, but it does have more functionality.
The original SmartCD program dates back to 1994. The current (and possibly last) full release of this program is version 1.13, dated March 11th 1994. If you want a fully functional CD player for RISC OS, it might possibly be enough for you. Download it by clicking here. Note that this has not been developed at all since 1994 - we would naturally like you to buy the full version from the ARM Club.
We now provide a searchable CD catalogue called SmartaVista. This allows automatic searching of the master listing. This list contains only a few thousand CDs at the moment. and cannot compare to (eg) The CDDB database of CD tracks, where you can probably find the track listings of any CDs released more than a few weeks ago. The advantages of our site are (i) it returns the catalogue in SmartCD+ format, and (ii) It can be automatically searched by the latest version of SmartCD+.
You can download the complete 'big' catalogue from this web site in Acorn Squash format (approx. 500KB). To uncompress the this just set its type to 'Squash' (hex code is &FCA) and double-click it, assuming you have a fairly standard RISC OS system.
If you just wonder which CDs are there, click here to see a listing in alphabetical order.
Please please please send me your catalogues so that they can be added to our central database. Find out how to on this page.
Some users find problems with hardware clashes, some of which are the fault of CDFS, some of which are down to !SmartCD+. We try to fix any problems, even if it means adding special code to the program for weird hardware. If you're finding strange behaviour, start by sending an email to Ian with a description of your system (number and type of drives, operating system, etc.). If you're feeling brave, there's a test program and CDFS documentation you can download from here which contains all the most important SWI calls.
