Résumé InformationMy résumé is available upon request to all interested parties. I will provide it as an Adobe PDF file or as plain ASCII text. Do not request Microsoft Word documents - you will be silently ignored. (Find out why.) Displaying the PDF version of my résumé will require Adobe's free Acrobat reader, which is available for every major platform, including Windows, Mac OS, and several flavors of Unix. EducationMy educational background is in both computer science and information technology. I obtained my B.S. in Information Technology from Rochester Institute of Technology in May 1998 with a concentration in networking. I still have strong roots in computer science and enjoy programming, mainly in C. Many people ask what "Information Technology" is, as it sounds more like a training college certificate course than a field of study. The easiest way to explain it is this: traditional information systems is interested in a management focus in a technology-driven business. Computer science focuses on the construction of tools and complex systems for a computer. Information technology lies between the two: it concentrates on how people work with computers. Information technologists are typically interested in things like network design, program interface design and user behavior, web server and site design, system administration, multimedia development, and database administration. Current WorkI'm interested in Unix system administration, as well as TCP/IP network administration. I fell in love with Unix in 1991, and it's still my favorite operating system to work with. I've also been known to work with Windows NT and Mac OS. Other professional areas of interest include security, public-key cryptography, and interface design. I presently work at a large financial institution in northern New Jersey as a Unix system administrator. Most of the systems I oversee run Solaris, but I also dabble with AIX. |
