Subject: Re: Yods with Mars and Saturn

Hi, i have been reading the articles on your
website re: yods and have taken note that you have
a yod with mars and saturn. I am just beginning to
explore the impact of yods, because I have a sun in
cancer in the 8th to mars in virgo in the 10th to
saturn in aquarius in the 3rd yod.

Do you have anything you'd like to share about the
mars-saturn connection in your yod and it's affect
on your life or any other comments that you think I
                            may find helpful?

                            thank you

Well, first off, my yod is worse than your yod. :-) (It
really is.) Mine involves a retrograde Saturn in the
12th (probably the worst placement for Saturn) and
a Taurus Mars. This makes consistent activity or
schedules (despite the presumed fixity of a Taurus
Mars) extremely difficult for me to maintain. The
only other aspect Mars makes is a square to Uranus,
which is more a curse than a blessing, and of course
quincunx to my MC which completes my yod.

In your case, at least you have your Sun sextile
Mars, so energy is more readily accessible to you
despite the fact that Saturn midpoints your Sun and
Mars. The difficulties indicated by your yod,
though, might be related to authority figures
stemming from relationship with your parent(s), I'd
think especially your Mom. Perhaps she was
overprotective, and very judgmental about what you
did and the friends you had in childhood (Saturn in
the 3rd -- peers). In any case, it has a sense of
difficulty with relating to peers because of early
'aloneness' (?) as well as a chronic problem with
bosses and authority figures due to the presence of
Mars in the 10th, in yod (fatedness; chronicity) with
                            Saturn and Sun.

One way to work with this, if what I've said is
accurate, might be to become self-employed.
Another thing you'll need to be vigilant about is your
health, including heart disease and problems
afflicting the spine (because of the involvement of
the Sun, which rules heart and spine). [You may
wish to refer to my article "Mercy and Compassion
Part 2 -- the Sun" or whatever the heck the title is.]
In Cosmobiology and Uranian astrology (the two
most prominent modern schools of astrology), the
Mars Saturn midpoint (written "Mars/Saturn") is
referred to as the "death axis". In Traditional and
Classical astrology, Mars and Saturn in hard aspect
have always been considered extremely difficult --
and in a yod, it is my opinion that they are worse
                            than difficult.

So, this has bearing on the concept of death,
whether physical death, or the endings of things like
friendships (sometimes through the death of the
                            other), jobs, etc.

When you are having a hard aspect to your yod by
any transiting outer planet, or any progressed planet
or angle, exercise greater caution than usual. Also be
aware of your yod's mean degree (add up the
longitudes of each planet in the yod and divide by
3), as well as the mean mean degree :-) (add up the
planets without regard to longitude and divide by 3),
and watch for transits to those degrees, as well as to
your Mars Saturn midpoint. These are strategies that
may help you to avert some of the negative events
that may manifest when your yod is triggered.

And importantly, be aware of what I've coined the
"cannonball effect"! Your yod, by Solar Arc
direction, will hit natal planets and points throughout
your life. Most difficult will be hits to your natal
angles. It will feel like you've been shot by a
cannon! These times can be extremely difficult and,
due to the innately fated quality of the yod, I'm not
sure there's much we can do by way of averting
unpleasant events that may occur. (I'm a realist.)
But we can try. Keep track of your Solar Arc yod
and whenever you see it about to hit a natal
placement (give yourself up to a degree of orb, since
I don't know how tight your yod is natally), you can
try to work (Mars) hard (Saturn) with all your heart
(Sun), to do something positive relating to the planet
or angle that will be hit. This may channel or funnel
some of the yod's energy away from undesired
effects. For instance, if Venus is to get hit, throw
yourself into some sort of art or craft. If the
Midheaven will be hit, do everything in your power
to improve your job/career situation, and your
                            reputation, etc.

hey thanks. btw, my saturn is retrograde as well.
what impact is there in a yod with saturn
                            retrograde vs. a direct saturn?

I'm really not sure of Rx Saturn's influence in a yod,
but Rx planets in general tend to express their
energies in non-conformist (for the planet in
question) ways. For example, my Rx Saturn in 12 is
already hindered by house placement at the normal
positive functions of Saturn (creating proper
                            boundaries, structure, security, self-discipline, etc.);
the fact that it is Rx, in my opinion, only enhances
the improper functioning of my Saturn. I don't want
to be more specific than that.

In your case, you have a healthier Saturn -- it is
domiciled in Aquarius, and not posited in one of the
murkier houses. This may help you to use it more
consciously, and to turn it into an energy you can
use more positively despite your yod, rather than be
                            overwhelmingly 'fate-bound'.

Typically, when transiting Saturn is Rx, it's hard to
get major projects or plans off the ground or
completed. There's a sort of limbo that hovers over
us and our efforts tend to drag out or meet with
blockages. This may be pertinent to Saturn Rx in
natal charts as well. I know in my case, this does
tend to happen a lot but, again, Saturn in 12 could
account for that on its own. Let your own
observations be your teacher, and good luck with
your yod -- you must be awfully strong of soul to
                            have incarnated with it!

                            Best,
                            Gail

                         Subject: Re: Jupiter Neptune Conjunctions

                        Hi Gail,

a personal trainer at the gym I belong to has done
some modeling and wants to be an actor. I find his
chart interesting. He has a Jup-Nep conjunction
that is nearly exact and trine 0 Aries. That seemed
promising for someone who wanted to be an actor.
Then later, reading Liz Green's book on Neptune, I
saw that Lawrence Olivier also has an exact
conjunction of the two. So, I was wondering, what
has that conjunction been like for you? I know it's
a little different because you have the planets in
different signs, and I haven't heard you say you'd
wanted to be an actress. But I thought you
                            might have some enlightening thoughts.

Well, actually, believe it or not, as a child I very
much wanted to pursue an acting career. You are
very astute to attribute the trait to the Jupiter
Neptune conjunction, and not to the Leo Sun, as
most sun sign books like to babble on about Leos'
need for the spotlight. (In fact, many Leos are quite
shy and prefer to shine in their own ways without
the glare of the limelight on them.)

In my case, the timing was not good. I hadn't the
looks for such a career; nowadays, the profession
has grown slightly more inclusive of less than
                            perfect-looking people.

Of Jupiter and Neptune conjunct, it is more
powerful when Pisces or Sagittarius are either on the
Ascendant, or the Midheaven. Aside from the acting
bug, the conjunction can reflect a sort of amorphous
and non-specific compassion for humanity; a
measure of self-delusion; grandiose plans that are
never attempted (or if attempted, never completed,
unless Saturn happens to be in the mix); and with
the Ascendant in Pisces or Sagittarius, the individual
may play the clown or 'happy fool', or be perceived
as such, no matter what the real feelings are on the
inside. In the 10th house, or with Pisces or
Sagittarius on the Midheaven, this conjunction can
make the individual appear 'larger than life', for good
or ill. Everything is exaggerated, so that personal
traits unconnected to the conjunction will be
magnified in the perception of others. This is
especially true in the arena of career. In the first
house, the clown-like qualities will be more
                            apparent.

This person's birthday is Sept 12, 1971 in Reading,
PA. So far, I haven't been able to get a time, but he
*kind of* looks like a Virgo rising to me. Though
looks can decieve. He runs around working like a
nut, so I've thought maybe Gemini. Hard to tell. He
always says he'll ask his mom, but he has to be
reminded of everything. It's a pain too because it
could mean the difference between a Canc/ Gem
                            moon.

Well, as you know, without the birth time, it's
generally fruitless to try to get in-depth with a chart.
But what you can always do anyway is to run a
Solar Chart -- this will give you a decent amount to
ponder, although a Solar Chart is useless for very
good predictive work, or much more specific
                            analysis of the chart.

I hope this answers your question, and I thank you
                            for writing!

                         Subject: Re: midpoint Cupido/Kronos

                         Hi Gail,

I saw your post on midpoints, Cupido/Kronos.
Mine is being conjunct by Solar Arc Mercury now,
which rules my AC and MC, in the natal 11th.
                            What can that be?

Well, within The Hamburg School, also known as
"Uranian astrology", the use of the hypothetical
planets is common. It's sort of like mixing apples
and oranges, when we combine our traditional
western astrology with the Uranian astrology. But, if
you're studying Uranian astrology, then the likely
manifestation of this Solar Arc would be to be in
contact with the higher-ranking members of a club
or organization. Cupido has mostly to do with clubs,
including families, and sometimes marriage if it is
                            with
Moon, Sun, Venus, or Mars. Kronos represents the
concepts of height, elevation, either literally or
figuratively. So, "higher-ups", including bosses, or
high ranking people, combined with clubs,
organizations, etc., especially in the 11th house
                            (although
the Uranian school uses a very different and
complex house system which gives each individual 6
different house systems), would seem to most likely
manifest in your becoming part of the upper
hierarchy of an organization, club, or workplace.
Your entire chart would need to be examined in
order to see how this fits in with other progressions,
arcs, and transits which are currently active for you,
so my interpretation is based on just that one
isolated arc that you mention. But it's certainly a
favorable arc, if the Cupido/Kronos midpoint is the
                            only factor involved.

                            Thank you,

                            You're welcome!

                            Gail

Subject: Re: About Yods and their activation?

                         Hello Gail:

I enjoyed your article on Yod Configurations. I
                            have been reading Epstein's, "Understanding
Aspects - The Inconjunct" and Hamaker-Zondag's,
"The Yod Book" as well as a few books on the
Nodes. These books have helped me understand
feelings and events that books on major aspects
didn't mention. I have a Yod (Jupiter to Pluto and
Neptune) that squares and trines my natal nodes
which conjunct my ascendant. I also have several
                            other inconjuncts.

So... that sounds as if you have lots of 'chance
meetings' with mysterious types of people? Are
interested in the occult? Very spiritual?

Your article spoke of the Yod's activation by
squares, oppositions, and conjunctions of the
bodies or midpoints. I am just begining to study the
Uranian Astrology/mid-point concepts, so I may
                            not understand until then.

Have you procured a copy of The Combination of
Stellar Influences,by Reinhold Ebertin[1], yet? This
will help you greatly when you are doing mid-point
                            work.

I don't see when the Yod/Inconjucts are being
activated in a way as to understand and prepare as
I can for an upcoming opposition or square.

Well, personal observation will teach you better than
a book. For example, make a log, or listing, of the
sorts of things you feel or experience whenever your
yod receives transits. If there turns out to be any
sort of common thread, then you can
know how to prepare in advance, if you wish.

Your yod sounds much more benign than others I've
                            seen.

For example, I have a yod involving Mars, Saturn,
and the MC[2]. I've learned that very often it is
worthwhile to exercise extra care when this, or its
                            midpoints, are being activated.

Frequent events connected to this yod include,
                            job-loss, accidents,
                            and general misfortune.

Also, could you explain more about the,
"unquenchable yearning quality which will not be
                            satisfied".

That comment, I believe, was directed more
specifically to the planets, Venus and Neptune, in
my first example. Venus and Neptune are notorious
for producing vague longings, and an almost fateful
proclivity to unrequited love -- a yod between the
                            two
enhances this and makes the pair even harder to
                            resolve.

But it is true, in my experience, that there is
something about every yod which is unquenchable.
It is almost like an obsessive-compulsive feeling, in
some cases, and perhaps has some affinity (I
speculate) to the 5th harmonic -- the quintile aspect.

I have read that the Yods can be a source of
creativity, have your experiences seen this too?

Yes. In every case I've seen, the owner of a yod has
a great deal of creative energy, whether or not his or
her profession allows such an outlet. You will find
lawyers with yods who like to putter around making
clay figurines and decorations, or people in other
very staid professions who feel compelled to make
things -- create things, in their free time. You see,
the energy is never quite dispelled the way it can be,
temporarily, with a square or opposition. The 'itch'
of the yod is pretty constant.

I am also trying to learn if there is a significance
of the Yod conjuncting my Midheaven

I would definitely say so. It must have some bearing
on your career. So, this combination of Pluto,
Neptune, and Jupiter, can have many different
manifestations in terms of career, from perfumer
(essential oils), to work in the healing professions,
to banking. But stay away from loan (Jupiter) sharks
                            (Pluto)!

There are any number of ways this combination of
symbols can manifest. But, certainly, with the MC
(and to a lesser extent, in contact with the nodes and
Ascendant), it is bound up with your career or
                            profession in some way.

and squaring/trining my Nodes/Ascendant. Do you
know of any books on the Nodes(or any book) that
                            would address this?

Much of what I've read regarding the nodes is
conflicting, and/or unsatisfying. I prefer the general
Uranian connotation of the nodes, which is simply
"connection". The nodes connect you to people,
                            places, or circumstances.

Do you see any ways in which you are connected to
any person, place, or situation, that relects your yod
of Neptune, Pluto, and Jupiter? Do you have friends
in the ministry or religious fields? Are you connected
to any spiritual or occult organizations?

Much of what you'll learn of astrology, that will be
of true worth, will be the result of your own
                            observations.

                         Sorry for all the questions.

Not at all! They have been very thought-provoking,
                            and I learn
also, in the process of sorting out my thoughts.

You are the first person I have seen addressing the
                            Yod configuration.

You'll see more, and probably much that is useful or
helpful, from others. The yod retains its mystery
because it is so recent that it has been much studied
at all (only since about the 1960s). No doubt, in
another few hundred years, much more will have
                            been clarified regarding it. <smile>

Thanks for any help you can provide,

                            You're very welcome.
