| There still aren't many cars in Hanoi, but motorbikes seem to outnumber bicycles by a hefty margin. All day and well into the night the noise of their engines and horns is deafening. Crossing the street is a kind of zen experience: you step out into the traffic and walk - don't run - and have faith that they won't run you over. And I'm here to tell the tale. | ![]() |

East meets west? I suppose that even if you're stuck riding a plain old bicycle, you may as well have it appropriately adorned. | ||

There's a lake near my hotel that has an island in it with a traditional temple. This is the bridge out to the island. | ||
