FRANK BARBARO FOR CONGRESS
CBID urges all liberal Democrats and all non-partisan progressives to
support the efforts of Frank Barbaro, who is running for Congress on the
Democratic and Working Families Party lines. He is trying to unseat the
ultra-conservative Republican incumbent Vito Fossella in the 13th
Congressional District in Staten Island and in the Bay Ridge,
Bensonhurst, Dyker Heights, and Gravesend neighborhoods of Brooklyn.
For 24 years Frank Barbaro represented Bensonhurst in the State
Assembly, where he chaired the Labor Committee. He then served as a
Justice on the State Supreme Court in Brooklyn until last year.
Barbaro, a former longshoreman, has fought for principles dear to the
hearts of liberal Democrats.
- He is dedicated to protecting the rights of all workers,
including the employees of the new Homeland Security Dept., to union
representation.
- He has the overwhelming support of the New York labor
movement.
- He has consistently opposed the Bush foreign policy of pre-emptive
war, which has alienated our major allies and world public opinion. He
has called for America to get out of the Iraq quagmire by
internationalizing the responsibility for restoring peace and public
security to that country.
- He has consistently denounced the whittling away of American
constitutional rights brought about by the passage and funding of the
so-called Patriot Act.
- He calls for rebuilding the American and the New York economy. This
means full taxation of corporations that export American jobs and
rewarding those firms that create jobs here. This means full Federal
funding to revitalize our city after the destruction of 9/11.
- He is pro-choice, advocates gun-control, and is eager to fight for
maximal environmental protection.
Frank Barbaro can help to return Congress to Democratic control. He can
defeat Vito Fossella, an ardent supporter of George W. Bush, despite
Fossella's big fund-raising advantage. However, Frank needs your help -
financial and personal. Send your contribution to Friends of Frank
Barbaro, 36 Richmond Terrace, Suite 215, Staten Island, NY 10302.
A Barbaro victory will make New York matter in 2004.
