Brooklyn, NY -- June 16, 2006 -- At a meeting that took place last
evening Thursday June 15, 2006 at the Park Slope Methodist Church
Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats (CBID) www.cbidems.org endorsed
candidates for New York Statewide offices, Eliot Spitzer for
Governor, Jonathan Tasini
for U.S. Senate and Mark Green for Attorney
General.
Current Attorney General Spitzer was the overwhelming favorite of
CBID to be New York State's next Governor. The club's Assemblymember
James Brennan summed up the feeling of most of the members at the
meeting, "Eliot Spitzer has a proven record of extraordinary
integrity, his leadership on civil rights, labor law, health care and
environmental cases not to mention curbing corporate malfeasance gives
us incredible insight into the type of Governor I am confident he will
be."
Club President Josh Skaller, speaking on the United States
Senate race, said, "Club members felt it was important to send a message
to Senator Hillary Clinton that her position on the war in Iraq was
unacceptable. In supporting Jonathan Tasini we have someone who is
firmly in favor of withdrawing U.S. troops immediately and ending U.S.
involvement in Iraq."
Speaking of Mark Green, Skaller said, "Mark has been a crusader
on behalf of consumers, workers and shareholders for more than 30 years
he is truly the people's lawyer and we are proud to support him".
CBID has fought for reform and progressive causes since its founding
in 1968 by reform Democrats, and anti-war and neighborhood activists.
Based in Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, and Kensington, we have been
instrumental in the election of many public officials. Staunchly opposed
to political corruption, and committed to judicial reform we are proud
of our independence and progressive politics. Visit us on the web at
www.cbidems.org.

CBID had a strong turnout at our Thursday, May 18th endorsement
meeting with 137 members coming out to vote. Thursday's vote was the
culmination of several well attended candidate forums in which 22
contenders running in the September Democratic primary presented their
candidacies to the public and to CBID. There are very few venues for the
public to hear and question candidates. Judicial candidates, in
particular, make almost no public appearances before September's
primary.
