WHEREAS an American war against Iraq would cause extensive casualties and loss of life, and
WHEREAS,
while Saddam Hussein's
government is undemocratic and repugnant, it does not pose a real threat
to Americans, and
WHEREAS there is no credible connection between the Iraqi government and Al Qaeda, and
WHEREAS Iraq does not have nuclear weapons and continued inspections by United Nations personnel can prevent the development of such weapons by Iraq, and
WHEREAS unilateral military action by the United States against Iraq without authorization by the United Nations undermines the United Nations and international law, and
WHEREAS a war in Iraq would entail a postwar occupation by American military forces, and
WHEREAS a war against Iraq would cost in excess of $70 billion, and
WHEREAS the current unemployment rate exceeds 11% and the Bush administration's war-mongering distracts Americans from a declining economy, corporate corruption, and soaring public deficits, and
WHEREAS the Bush administration's war hysteria has been providing the pretext for attacks on labor, civil, immigrant, and human rights in the United States,
