From 1966 to 1969 I was a member of the United States Navy assigned to Assault Craft Unit 2 stationed at Little Creek Virginia. I was a Radiomen 3rd Class aboard a LCU (Landing Craft Utility). During that time I made 2 summer cruises to the Mediterranean for 4 months and 2 winter cruises to the Caribbean for one month. The Med. cruises were in 1967 and 1968 aboard the LCU 1490. The Carib. cruises were the same years aboard the LCU 1490, and the LCU 1612. On every cruise I made our LCU was assigned to the USS Casa Grande LSD-13 (Landing Ship Dock see below). When discharged I was stationed on the LCU 1488.
All the 1400 class LCU's were similar to this. Click on image to enlarge.
