On Sunday 4/17 we had a total of 8 experienced kayakers to check the conditions of the river before our scheduled paddle on May 8. Everyone had a great time. Because of the heavy rain the day before, the water level was high and current fairly swift (for this slow-moving river). I recorded GPS coordinates of current and potential blockages, and sent them to the Wildlife Refuge. Hopefully they will help to clear the obstructions; however, only one portage was necessary the entire day. I believe with all the rain we have been having, the water level will stay high enough to allow potential obstructions to not pose much of a problem on May 8. It should be an easier day than last year, and very pleasurable for those who enjoy paddling in a natural setting.
