January 13-16, Holiday Weekend Trip, Vermont Country House, Readsboro VT
Join us on MLK weekend for a multitude of winter activities in southern Vermont! Activities include cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, snowshoeing, hiking or even just exploring the quaint small towns in the area. We have reserved a very nice Vermont country house for our group. There are 4 bedrooms/2 baths plus a bonus room that sleeps up to 12 people. The house was built in 1850 and backs up to the Green Mountain National forest. It’s only minutes away from the town of Wilmington VT, Mount Snow and the local Spoonwood Creamery and Honora Winery. You can snowmobile, snowshoe or hike right from front porch to many miles of well maintained trails! Deer, wild turkeys, fox, geese, ducks, hummingbirds, etc. are found regularly on this property. This is also a wonderful place to see the beautiful night sky without light pollution. Bring your cross-country skis or snowshoes if you would like to ski or hike right from or near the rental property. For groomed trails (generally preferred) and cross-country ski and snowshoe rentals, we will visit Prospect Mountain Nordic Ski Center or Timber Creek Cross Country Ski Center adjacent to Mount Snow. For downhill skiing, Mount Snow is the closest downhill facility. There are also snowmobile tours available at Mount Snow, and High Country. Also, Zoar Adventure Center supplies several types of rentals. All of these facilities are about a 30 min drive from the house.

To reserve a spot, send a check for $125 made out to Campers‘ Group, to: Campers’ Group, 48 S. High Street Mt. Vernon, NY 10550. Once the organizer or a trip leader is notified of receipt of your check, you will be added to the RSVP list. For immediate inclusion, pay $129 via PayPal on the meetup.com page for this trip.

January 28-29, Cabin Trip, Thendara Mountain Club, Harriman State Park NY
Our friends at Thendara Mountain Club have invited us to stay overnight at their rustic cabin in Harriman State Park. The cabin (built 1929) has heat, electricity, a full kitchen, indoor men’s and women’s washrooms with hot showers, and heated bathrooms about 50 ft from the lodge. There are seven bedrooms with 2-4 cots each (rooms are shared). The cabin has a big main room with fireplace, comfortable seating, eating table and screened in porch. The weekend includes Saturday night dinner, Sunday breakfast and a bag lunch.

Meet us at the cabin on Saturday morning at 9:30am to join us on a moderately strenuous hike. Depending on snowfall, we may instead snowshoe or even cross-country ski. We may also carpool to the trail head. Later in the afternoon we will return to camp for a relaxing and well deserved happy hour in front of the fire! Dinner will be provided by the Thendara host for this weekend. Breakfast and sandwiches will be available on Sunday. Diet restrictions can usually be accommodated - just be sure to tell the host when you RSVP. You need to bring a sleeping bag or sheet and pillowcase. There are wool blankets and pillows available. On Sunday, after we have breakfast and prepare our bag lunch, we may go out again starting at about 11am from the cabin. The total cost will be approximately $45 (depending on what food the host brings to prepare), which will cover meals and lodging. You can also join us just for the Saturday hike for $7.

You can take the train or bus to Sloatsburg and can either hike in, ride a bike up scenic Seven Lakes Drive, or we can arrange to have someone from camp with a car meet you at the station. Feel free to bring a spouse, date, friend and well behaved kids, but sorry, no pets.

To reserve a spot, send a check for $7 made out to Campers‘ Group, to: Campers’ Group, 48 S. High Street Mt. Vernon, NY 10550. Once the organizer or a trip leader is notified of receipt of your check, you will be added to the RSVP list. For immediate inclusion, pay $7.50 via PayPal on the meetup.com page for this trip.
Please contact the trip leaders on or after December 10.

February 17-20, Holiday Weekend Trip, TMax-n-Topo’s Hostel, Lake Placid NY
We are finally returning to Lake Placid! This beautiful area has excellent cross-country skiing, also downhill skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, hiking and many other activities in the spectacular high peaks region of the Adirondacks. Lake Placid is an interesting town to explore, having hosted both the 1932 and the 1980 Winter Olympics. We have reserved two rooms in the popular TMax -n- Topo’s Hostel. They are motel-style rooms, one that sleeps up to six and has a full kitchen and another that sleeps up to five and has a small refrigerator, microwave and coffee pot. Both private rooms have their own bathroom and shower. (We will need to discuss if we want to make them men’s and women’s rooms, or if they will be coed.) The downstairs common area has a very large kitchen, a dining area and sitting room. They have wireless internet and cable TV, and you can also relax on the large porch. The Mt. Van Hoevenberg Cross Country & Biathlon Center is a world class facility for cross-country skiing, ice skating, snow tubing, and even bobsledding or a tree-top gondola ride! Whiteface Mountain for downhill skiing, and a visit to the Olympic Museum can also be great fun! As luck would have it, our friends at Thendara Mountain Club are also staying in the area this weekend! We plan to meet up with them for a dinner, hike or other activity.

To reserve a spot, send a check for $104 made out to Campers‘ Group, to: Campers’ Group, 48 S. High Street Mt. Vernon, NY 10550. Once the organizer or a trip leader is notified of receipt of your check, you will be added to the RSVP list. For immediate inclusion, pay $110 via PayPal on the meetup.com page for this trip.
Please contact the trip leaders on or after December 11.
