Sunday, February 7, Meeting, then Hike!, REI, East Hanover NJ
REI is allowing us to use their 2nd floor community room for our meeting. We’ll start at 10am to continue to plan our upcoming spring and summer events. After the meeting, follow us over to nearby South Mountain Reservation for a moderate 4-6 mile hike. Please wear hiking boots or shoes, bring lunch, and/or energy snacks, and about 2 liters of water.

If you have joined us on one or more of our outings in the past, we would greatly appreciate you volunteering to help lead a weekend or day event. If it is your first time, don’t worry, we will partner you with a more experienced member. We are a volunteer-run club that needs more of their members to participate. There is no fee to attend, and you’re welcome to shop in the store just after the meeting.

February 12-15, Hiking, Snowshoeing or Cross-Country Skiing, New Paltz Hostel, New Paltz NY
Join us for a 2 or 3-day weekend in New Paltz, NY. In nearby Minnewaska State Park and Mohonk Preserve, there are many excellent hiking trails, groomed cross-country ski trails and snowshoeing trails with incredible vistas of the Shawangunk Ridge. There is an admission fee for either park. New Paltz is a college town with eateries, cafes and live music. The Wallkill Valley Rail Trail crosses Main St. and continues 12 miles south to Gardiner. You can rent cross-country skis and snow shoes in town. If you don’t know how to cross-country ski, we can show you the basics. If there is not enough snow, we will plan great hikes in this beautiful area. We will stay at the New Paltz Hostel. If the hostel fills up, we can suggest area motels that are suitable alternatives. The hostel check-in time starts on Friday at 4pm; check-out is 10am. Public transportation is also available. The hostel is on Main St. in New Paltz right next to a Trailways bus station.

If you want to go on this trip and stay with the group, you MUST contact the New Paltz Hostel at 845-255-6676 and reserve your own lodging. To join our group for the weekend’s activities, contact a trip leader and send a check for $3.00 made out to Campers‘ Group, to: Campers’ Group, 48 S. High Street Mt. Vernon, NY 10550. Once the organizer or a trip leader is notified of receipt of your check, you will be added to the RSVP list. For immediate inclusion, pay $3.39 via PayPal on the meetup.com page for this trip.
