High Point State Park
Sussex, NJ

This park, which borders Stokes State Forest, has hiking trails (some of which accomodate mountain bikes) and a lake for swimming and fishing. The Appalachian Trail runs through the park.

The group campsites have pit toilets. There are flush toilets and showers at Lake Marcia near the monument. The monument is a tall building built on the highest point in the park. It had been closed for repairs for a long time, but I recently heard a rumor that it reopened.

Driving directions: Take Interstate 80 West to exit 53 and get on New Jersey Route 23 North. After you drive a while on 23, you'll pass the town of Sussex. The park office is 7 miles north of Sussex. To get to the group sites, continue north on Route 23 past the office and make a left onto Sawmill Road. Then bear right onto Ridge Road. The group campsites will be on the right.
