I was thinking about the
ancient Romans in the shower this morning.
They had elaborate and beautiful baths built throughout their cities and
bathing regularly was a hygienic and social necessity. I also learned recently that soap is a
relatively new invention (only some hundreds of years old) and that the Romans
used oil to clean with. They must have
had very soft and smooth skin. They also
must have had very slippery floors in the baths.
I bought a chicken to roast
and to make stock with. Oddly enough, my
recipe calls for stock to make the roast.
Seems like a chicken and egg scenario: unless you are willing to use raw
chicken for stock, how do you get stock when you don’t have roasted
chicken? I bought store stock for this
roast.
