A weekend in the Blue Mountains

In June we spent a weekend in the Blue Mountains.  The Blue Mountains are to the West and North of Sydney by about an hour’s drive and are called the “blue” mountains for the blue mist that rises from the gum trees that make up the forests that cover the hills.

I call the protuberances “hills” as they rise about 1000+ meters (3280 feet) above sea level.  The highest point in the Blue Mountains is maybe another 100 meters (328 feet) above that.  For reference, the highest point in all of Australia is Mount Kosciusko which is 1755 meters and the highest point in the United States is Denali (or Mount McKinley) in Alaska at 6166 meters (20,230 feet).

Through work John got two nights at a very nice hotel and spa in the town Katoomba.  We ate in the hotel restaurant which was very good.  The hotel restaurant is located in a separate little house on the hotel property.

We did some hiking in the mountains--not too much as I was more than 5 months pregnant at the time.
