I have “known” you and not (really) known you for quite a long time, in that odd and interesting way of knowing that has been given to us by the Interwebs. What’s always shone forth: intelligence, certainly, but more than that love, serenity, and, yes, grace. I am completely confident that you have touched more lives than you can ever really know and in a gentle and positive fashion. You inspire me to be a better me, Mara, and for that I am very grateful.

I hope the good initial experience with hospice continues. I’m glad you have support here and in email. It’s very kind of you to keep us updated like this.

I was confused for a moment at the mention of Thanksgiving but I agree that it seems appropriate to thank you for your friendship and hospitality over the years we’ve known one another.

I have to agree with George. Your friendship with me made a huge impression on me and I have found that in spite of not being as in touch as we should have been over the years, I feel close to you and cherish those times we had together. We had such fun as kids in a terrific neighborhood and those memories have lasted a lifetime. It was a time of innocence and I’m so grateful to have met you and your family and have had the opportunities to spend time with you all. So many memories. How do you sum them all up in words? You think you have all the time in the world to tell someone how much they’ve meant to you, but there’s never enough. I miss you, Mara, and thank you sincerely for your friendship.

Today I am remembering our teenage years and the friendship we formed during our experiences in theater, music, and other shared interests. I found with you a depth of conversation only rarely enjoyed during those years. Aside from the nourishment and healing it provided, it marked the beginning of a journey toward lasting friendship and enduring affection. Today is my Thanksgiving…. for your gifts to me over a span of some 50 years. I thank you.
