B Combat archery Weapons Standards:
updated Fri Jul 26 2002

Combat Archery Inspections:

Combat Archery inspections will take place at Marshal Point. Arrows/ Bolts must be re-inspected at the Point before every battle and will be sprayed with the "color of the day" if they pass inspection. Any bolts/ arrows that DO NOT PASS inspection, with less then an hour before the start of the battle, will be held at Marshals Point until the battles conclusion. Then they may be retrieved for repairs.

Any bolt or arrow found on the battle field without the "color of the day" marking will be considered un-inspected equipment and will be handed over to Marshal’s Court for review.

Combat Archery Weapons Standards:

Arrows/ Bolts: Length is measured from the bottom of the knock slot to just behind the back of the blunt. Arrows made of wood, siloflex (100psi) or solid fiberglass have a maximum length is 28 inches. Bolts have a maximum length is 24 inches. Arrows and bolts must be covered lengthwise with fiber or strapping tape from the base of the APD to the to the end of the arrow/bolt. Silo-flex and golf tube shafts do not need to be wrapped in strapping tape. Diameter of wood and fiberglass style s must meet society requirements. The Bolt/ Arrow must be marked with the archers name and kingdom.

Arrow / Bolt heads: Must be tennis ball, Baldur Blunt, Thistle Missile, Markland, UHMW, and Conehead style. Tennis balls must be tied on, and Baldur blunts, new and old styles, must have strapping tape or good quality electrical going over the head of the blunt and wrapped around the base. Silo-flex (100psi) may have a tennis ball, baldur, or stopper style head with padding and the stopper must be laced on. Golf tube bolts/arrows may also have foam/ dowel heads.

APD’s: Must be attached securily to the knock end of all bolts or arrows that are made of wood or solid fiberglass per society regulations for approved APD’s. Only society approved APD styles will be allowed. The knocks MAY NOT protrude more then ½ inch past the end of the APD.

Longbows and recurves: Heavy bows of 31# to 50# at 28 inch draw may only shoot golf tube arrows and must be marked with a 6 inch strip of red tape on the upper limb. All bows shotting other than golf tube arrows will be 30# or less at 28 inch draw, measured from the back of the bow to the drawn string. (Note: the "back " of the bow is the side facing the enemy. The "belly" of the bow is the side facing the archer.)

Crossbows: Crossbows firing anything other than golf tubes or silo-flex (100psi) must have a maximum draw weight of 600 inch/ pounds. Crossbows firing golf tubes or silo-flex (100psi) must have a maximum draw weight of 1000 inch/ pounds and be marked with a 6 inch strip of red tape on the prod. This is the measurement of the draw length from the relaxed string to the drawn/ cocked string, multiplied by the poundage of the crossbow.

No arrows/ bolts may be fired if your opponent is within 10 feet.

Hits are to be treated the same as any other thrusts. Hits to the top, side, or back of the helm do not count.

If any weapon, including arrows/ bolts, hits your bow, it is considered "broken".

Ricochet shots off other opponents are not good.

Golf tube and silo-flex (100psi) arrows/bolts may be gleaned from the battlefield and reused. All others may only be cleared from the field when the archer’s quiver is empty and must be inspected by a CA Marshal prior to being reused.

Heavy Archers:

  1. All archers on the field are considered heavy list fighters and subject to heavy list conventions. Archers that discard their bows must use weapons that provide hand protection as required by society laws. They will be TOUCH KILL.
  2. Armor: as above for heavy weapons fighters, including full hand protection on the bow hand, and half-gauntlet and glove or archers gauntlet on the arrow/ string hand. Archers using crossbow may have archers gauntlets or similar hand protection on both hands.
  3. A quiver is not a shield or armor and if struck, the blow is to be taken as if the quiver is not there. Any shield must have a grip/ strap/ handle held by the hand, otherwise it is considered armor and if "touched" or hit by an arrow, you lose your arm.
  4. To switch from "combat archer" to heavy weapons fighter" you must drop your bow before drawing a weapon. Crossbows must be handed to a marshal or removed from the list unloaded.

Non-Contact Combat Archers:

Non-Contact Combat Archers will follow society rules for NCA’s. Helmets/ head protection must be marked with white diamonds (like a scout) and will be restricted to the sidelines in battles that allow Combat Archery. They will be "killed" by a heavy fighter or heavy combat archer pointing their weapon at that and announcing " Archer your dead" from 10 feet away.
