Hockett Be Not Proud

My IMHO Column for AllSoapScoops.com

Hi everyone. It's been a while since I commented on All My Children. Was it because I had a debilitating brain tumor, like Jonathan Lavery? Perhaps, but I have to say, as much as I like Jeff Branson as Hockett, I mean, Jonathan, I am so very tired of Ryan.

Ryan Ryan Ryan. I just don't get the appeal of this character. The entire "bad blood" storyline is ridiculous. Ryan discovers that Patrick Lavery IS his father after all and suddenly falls apart. So, he suddenly has anger management problems now that he realized that he is, genetically, a Lavery? Ridiculous. And he leaves Greenlee thinking he's dead?

There's talk that Rebecca Buddig might be leaving the role of Greenlee. This dumb storyline is a good motivation for seeking greener pastures.

The idea right now is that Jonathan might be a datable character once they place his extracted brain tumor in evidence for killing Edmund, Braden, Greenlee's body guard. Am I missing anyone? It seems like there should maybe be a stint in an institution, if not a manslaughter sentence. They perhaps should have through this through, no?

It's as if the show has fallen apart now that Bianca is eating croissants in the St. Germain arrondissment of Paris. I wrote about this endlessly last year. Everything was pegged to Bianca and Miranda. What am I supposed to root for now? Well, one bright spot is Danielle vs. The Pervert, her stepfather, who is also the Dragon. It's a shame they have combined the Dragon story with the teen predator storyline, the latter of which has some good potential.

Meanwhile, I don't care about Kendall birthin' the Lavery baby. That's just too much "aacrifice" as far as I am concerned. COuldn't Kendall help Greenlee (whom she hated months ago) without it involving her reproductive system?

The Sacrifice of St. Babe is also not a great storyline. She jumps immediately into the frying pan, and the frying pan right now is a return to JR? At least the show has a nice social issue in temrs of alerting new parents that they need to learn CPR. Otherwise, I don't get any of this storyline. The idea that Aunt Phoebe would hamstring Jamie to drop "that strumpet" is just bad in two ways. First, it tarnishes our image of Phoebe, and then, Second, Tad and Brooke are loaded. Why couldn't they send Jamie to any school he wants. Oh, and third, since when can JR pick up a phone and blacklist him from every school in the land?

The most glaring problem this summer has been the disappearance of Ethan. Why is one of the most physically appealing men on this show simply off the canvas, and what happened to the "fun romance" we were promised between him and Simone? And how did the Zack-Kendall-Ethan triangle just vanish?

Another problem I am having with the show is the return of Julia. It's a shame that Maria is not around for it. And Anita is off canvas until the actress gives birth. And Rosa and her mother are... where? They recast Isabella for some odd reason, and that actress appeared esactly twice, to my memory, to say horrible things about Edmund's sexual incapabilities when he was still with us. A lot of the Julia storyline involves the need to remember Noah, whom we have seen in flashbacks. Something tells me that when a character's main tie-in to the show is a dead character seen in flashback, there's a problem. I love Sidney Penny, ever since she was in
the "Thornbirds." So why is it she has zero chemistry with anyone on screen right now, except maybe Di. Did the show learn nothing from the disaster that was Maureen/Maria?

Well, a lot of this explains the show's slide into the lower rungs of the ratings. Let's hope things improve as we head into sweeps in November.
