Must Love Dogs

Diane Lane returns in another second-time-around screwball romance film

After the success of "Under the Tuscan Sun," it is no surprise that Diane Lane is back in "Must Love Dogs" as another divorce thrown into the world of dating. Here, her character is thrown into the world of online dating by one of her sisters (Elizabeth Perkins), and her big Irish family has an intervention at the film's start to get her back into dating. One of her online paramours turns out to be her own father (Christopher Plummer).

Another divorce, played by John Cusack, is also being urged to date by a friend of his also. The two wind up meeting and an awkward romance ensues, complicated by Lane's flirtation with one of her kindergarten student's fathers (Dermot Mulroney).

While the film has a typical screwball romantic comedy finish, there are some nice touches along the way, with one of the better performances coming from Stockard Channing, a sextagenarian who is one of three women Lane's father is seeing simultaneously.
