3 March 1999: Customerisneverright.com

Well, I am declaring war on Amazon.com. At the request of my cousin B in Britain, I ordered some CDs for him. Wanting to take advantage of bulk savings, I also ordered Madonna's latest album and David B. Feinberg's Queer and Loathing. Without a whole geschichte, let's just say that I am fed up with fighting with ecommerce providers who refuse to send packages as I would prefer. Amazon insisted that the package would be "bulky" (three CDs and a book are bulky?) and that UPS would be necessary. After last month's go-round with Powell's, I was insistent that if they had to use UPS, I would have to have it sent to work. So today I received the CDs, but not the book. The book is being sent via US Postal Service, as I had originally wanted, but now it's going to work, at a time of upheaval (we are moving officed and the place is chaos). So I told them to cancel my account.

So I will stick with CD Universe for music (I have never had trouble with them), and Powell's Powell's for books if absolutely necessary.

What Time Is It? It's a Quarter to Monica.

The subways tonight were really quiet tonight. Being a near-complete cynic, I swear it's because Barbara Walter was interviewing Monica Lewinsky. Of course I rushed home to see the interview as well. I was surprised, and even a little moved. Barbara is known for making people cry, but my goodness, Monica seemed like a wounded animal at times. Or she's a fantastic liar. If she ever needs to slap Linda Tripp, I will happily hold Ms. Tripp for her while she lets loose.
