Bird of Time

"The Bird of Time has but a little way to fly,
and lo! The bird is on the wing!"
-The Rubiyat of Omar Khayyam

Will you come and walk with me a while, and talk to me
About the moon?
Will you grin and take me in your arms, if I should give away too much,
Too soon?
Will you love, and will you live,
If I sin, will you forgive?
Will you take me, darling;
Will you lift me up and let me fly away?

If you will, well, then what can I do
But stay?

Time
Is flying,
Let me ride it for a while with you;
With every beat of the wing,
I forget my suffering,
I forget how to be blue.

When the tide comes in, just wash me up onto another
Desert shore,
I will find a way, I'll walk by night and sleep by day,
I've made that trip
Before.
I will climb, and I will crawl,
Pick myself up when I fall.
I will never give up,
I will burn before I let you fade away.

'Cause if I catch up to your light
Maybe the sun will stay.

And Time
Is flying,
Let me meet you at the trade winds' end,
We don't have far to fly
Until we fall out of the sky,
I want to fly it with a friend.
