The most variation between responses occurred in the treatment of reproduction fees. Some institutions assigned fees simply (Black and White or Color), and some had separate fees for every possible use. We have tried to group the information headings together in a way that makes the most sense, so all General Use items appear together and all Specific Use items appear together.
Cover use fees are usually twice as much as interior use fees. Color fees are usually twice as much as black and white. Most respondents assigned a black and white interior use fee and doubled it for each of cover, color, extended rights and large print runs.
As mentioned above, the degree of specificity
varied greatly among institutions. These two headings represent
the respondents who assigned one fee for reproduction in a book,
magazine, or periodical, regardless of interior or cover use.
