APRIL
Wisteria clusters bleed from vines
still twining around still-bare branches
tumbled among the red clay mounds
a backhoe dug up to unclog the culvert.
Azalea petals fade and blotch
like a child's favorite red flannel pajamas.
Gust and downpour did them no harm
but now they shred on schedule, dissolve in time.
