Terry Winter Owens is an internationally published composer
and pianist based in New York City. Her music has been
described as "... hauntingly beautiful ..."
The Bangkok Times specially noted the "remarkably
evocative sonorities" of her music.

This CD features five piano compositions performed by virtuoso pianist Francisco Monteiro. Click here to listen to excerpts and/or to order. The title, "Exposed on the Cliffs of the Heart," is from a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke. |
Her poetry and
her translations of the poetry of Rainer
Maria Rilke is embedded in the fabric of the music in many
recent pieces. The words are spoken either by a narrator
or by the instrumentalists themselves.
Titles and narration of many of her compositions are inspired by astrophysics and the physics of light. Two recent pieces in that genre are "Ancient Fire" for two pianos and "Cellestial Music: Book I: The Facts of Light" for cello and narrator. Owens is a Yamaha Artist and was nominated for the Van Cliburn Commission 2005. She has received many awards and prizes including First Prize in the Miriam Gideon Competition for her chamber work "Messages for Raoul Wallenberg" and finalist in the Whitney Museum Two Piano Festival for "Pianophoria #3." Her music has been widely performed in Europe, the Far East, the U.S. and Canada, most recently in New York City, Spain, Portugal, Dubai, Turkey, The Netherlands and Tokyo. |

Please see the performances page for details. "Rendezvous with Hyakutake" from the CD "Exposed on the Cliffs of the Heart" performed by Francisco Monteiro, will be featured on NPR's "Open Mic" and will be available as a podcast. Date and URL to be announced. "Supernova" for solo flute and narrator, exquisitely performed by Nina Assimakopoulos on the CD "Points of Entry," has been issued by Capstone Records. The poem is on Track 11, the music on track 12. To order the CD or listen to brief audio samples go to: http://www.capstonerecords.org/CPS-8759.html The American Recorder Society published "Lay Your Shadow on the Sundials" for three recorders. Release date May 2006. In a review of "The Bending of the Light" in the New Music Connoisseur, Peter Kroll writes: "Owens makes creative use of movement with lines, colors and harmonies. The piece had an endless feel to it that I believe relates to the phenomenon that inspired it. Monteiro captured the subtleties in the work very well." Review from the Gulf Times - Qatar - June 24,
2004 Scores and parts of Owens' music are available from the composer upon request. A demo CD with 74 minutes of recent works for piano, two pianos and
chamber ensemble is available free of charge to performing ensembles,
publishers, filmmakers, etc. Please email your request to Owens at
