Scattered Comments Against Abortion

'Uwanted pregnancy' must be the ultimate Orwellianism! How did it get
there, by sneezing? How much lnger shall we put up with the disproven
cankersore arguments of te freelove, freedrugs, freemoney, nowork flower
children? I once read that their Roman sandals and washlessness produced
hygeinic ailments unseen for centuries - perhaps AIDS, herpes and chalmydia
are such, too. Prostitution, was not curtailed for moral reasons, but for
public health reasons! It has been the "feminist" and "sexual revolutions"
that have denied women many of the traditional protections - dehumanising
women, turning them into disposable playthings, and forcing them to do twice
(or more) as much as men in order to survive. [George Gilder, Sexual_Suicide;
Maggie Gallagher's Enemies of Eros, rvu CLAllen 2/90 Am_Spec p46+;
Sholzhenitsin Mortal_Danger Harper 1980 p32]
It may ultimately be technologically feasible to have the entire
pregnancy in_vitro, hence throwing the abortionist viability arguments out
the window. Indeed 20wk viability now proven, RoeVsWade's middle trimester
ceased to functionally exist as the other two became semesters. Most feminist
prochoice groups stand to the left of RvW's considering last trimester
abortions murder, and thusly to the left of the mainstream, which today does
- like RvW - want abortions limited butt is unsure as to how and when.
"Abortion is the termination of pregnancy before the fetus is viable (20
weeks), that is, before it is capable of extrauterine existence. When the
pregnancy terminates after 20 weeks but before full term (fetus weighing
2,500 g. or more) it should be classified as 'premature labor' rather than
'abortion.'" [p 770 ISBN 0-397-52091-3 Rypin Med Lic Exams 13ed 1981
Lippincott] The head has formed at 13 weeks. [Rypin p 762] At 37 days you can
see the eyes, at 56 days the fingers. After four weeks, the original three
brain divisions become five. The heart begins beating at the third week.
During the third month, there is an almost tenfold weight gain. After seven
weeks, the ear middle vestibule is functionally alive. [pp 944-946, ISBN

untangle the issues will result in more legal experimentation, and thusly
more deliberation. Transcripts show [22JAN89 WashPost pD1 Woodward] that
Blackmun knew he was improperly using the SC to legislate.
Abortion is not new - it was banned by canons, including those of St
Basil, and by the Apostolic Didache - in those days they used strychnine
ratpoison, and along with infanticide, it was one strong reason a lot of
Romans turned to Christianity. [?cf Dawson, Building_Christendom?] "The
Nohidic law...mandates death for one who 'shall spill the blood of man by
man' or 'man within man' / The great medieval Jewish sage Moses Maimonides
interpreted this as follows:'a descendant of Noah who killed any human being,
even a fetus in its mother's womb, is to be put to death." [D Nissen,
NYC_Tribune 29JUN89]. But St Basil's canons were more compassionate: they saw
it as a form of manslaughter - and saw they tryingness of the situation
[Canons: 2: her that procures abortion 10 yrs penance - whether embryo formed
or not, 13: killing at war no communion for three years, 11: invol murderer
11 yr penance, 56: repentant murderer 20yrs] which might be roughly
equivalent to ten years denied voting rights. Roe vs Wade indicates that
older statutes [eg 1828 NYS], recognised the limit we now refer to as
'viability' (20 weeks) as 'quick' (16-18 weeks, in common law terminology):
pre-quick abortions were midemeanors, while post-quick were second degree
manslaughter; The limitations of 14 days practiced on embryonic research
materials today has an early counterpart considered at 40-80 days, even by
Augustine, in placing the soul's arrival -- Yet RvW also attacks the
Hypocratic oath as being ethically too strict and rigid! On the other hand,
the doctor, who often does little to even suggest alternatives, in my book,
is quite the murderer.
And when you speak of rights, which right is greater: the woman's right
to not have to bear the child for nine months - a temporary inconvenience -
or the permanent denial of the child's right to life? As for the coathanger
argument, it makes as much sence as saying hitment should be legalised
because a vengeful neighbor could leave you crippled by botching the job. How
many people would find a qualitative standard based on premature-birth
survivals acceptble? What about foetal transplants instead of abortions? If
doctors can save an aborted fetus, shouldn't they be required to do so - even
at state expence? At the very least, perhaps we should not allow doctors to
spend more than a fifth of their time dealing with abortions, and require
them to give multi-sided lectures on abortion? Why don't abortion doctors
have the same malpractice problems as birth-delivering ObGyns - political
pressure? embarassment? How'bout mandatory sterilisation of child support
deadbeats if they dropped out of more than one family -- and castrating
recidivist rapists?
"Since its creation Planned Parenthood has worked for mandatory
population control. In 1969, its president, Alan Guttmacher, aserted openly
that coercion may eventually become necessary to contain the 'population
explosion.'...1985, the Centers for Disease Control reported that abortion is
now the fifth leading cause of maternal death...AIDS..condoms - has long been
under attack by Planned Parenthood.. aren't effective enough...Margaret
Sanger, founder...was a paid worker for the Socialist Party...friends were
such Communists and Revolutionaries as John Reed, Julius Hammer, and Emma
Goldman..close ties with a number of national socialists..never a nurse, and
she worked in public health, as a low-level technician, for only two
months..In her newsletter, the Woman_Rebel.. classified Blacks, southern
Europeans, Jews, and other immigrants s 'mentally inferior to native-born
white Americans'..target..poor.'human weeds'..once said that 'attempts to
help the poor are te surest signs that or civilization has bred,is breeding,
and has perpetually, constantly increasing numbers of defectives,
delinquents, and dependants.'" [Promuscuity & Socialist Eugenics, C.
Marshner/ G. Grant, Conservative_Digest, 5/6-88, p71+. Based on Big_Lie:
Scandal_Pl_Par, Rev G Grant, Wolgemuth&Hyatt(1988)] Many proabortionists can
be made to also talk about their support for euthanasia of 'burdensome'
elderly, health care rationing, and infanticide (Baby Jane Doe) - quite often
on Malthusian environemntalist bases; yet these limited earth hypotheses have
been strongly disproven in Julian Lincoln Simon's Ultimate_Resource
[Princeton, 1981, ISBN 0-691-09389-X] which shows that most of our problems
decrease asymptotically and hyperbolically (such as price over wage for many
raw materials) over time because the human mind is the ultimate resource (eg
substitution effects).
