A Woodstock garden

I built this garden during the summer of 2004 on a sunny hillside in New York's upper Hudson Valley. Flowering perennials and annuals occupy the eastern third of the garden. Kitchen herbs are in the center, while vegetables grow along its western edge.

A six-foot fence has kept out the deer — so far! Tomatoes quickly filled out a pair of cages built from leftover fencing material.

Summer blooms

Flowering perennials were nearing the end of their season by early fall ...

... while annuals bordering the herb garden were putting on a last display of color.
