Kameda, between 12th and 11th on University Place is right across the street and about a block and a half down from Japonica. Their prices are a little pricy, and their hired help sometimes lacking, but the food is good. They use tables made from thick planks cut from a large tree, joined by butterfly joints and pegs, and leave the bark on the edges. It's nice, but I feel that the heavy varnish skews the "natural" feel a bit. They have a traditional room that you can be seated at without a reservation. While the sushi is good, the serving size I find lacking. I do like the cooked food, which is reasonably sized. Even though I have pushed them to put mochi on their desert menu, they have resisted thus far.
