We’re in Chimgan, in the western edge of the Tian Shan mountains. About 1500 meters up and we’re definitely feeling it! Went on a little hike yesterday up Little Chimgan mountain with plenty of stops to catch our breath. The closest big mountain is Chimgan and the snow covered peaks in the distance are in Kyrgyzstan. ed: pretty sure thats in photo 1 For a snack we brought qurut, an old traditional food here of dried salted yogurt. photo 5 It keeps well and sometimes it gets dissolved in water to use as a broth for cooking. It tasted a lot like feta with a very dry, almost sandy texture. It’s cooler in the mountains than we expected (so Buster had to buy a jacket at the bazaar right before we left Tashkent). There was some rain and a short thunderstorm after we got back from the hike. |
