Wet Feet!

The woman who runs our hotel arranged for a guy she knows to drop
us off at a trail head about 30 minutes away. The last mile was
slow going on a very bumpy dirt road but we made it and had a
beautiful hike in a deep gorge carved out of the mountains by the
Mazarsay river.

The trail criss crossed over the river several times. At first
Buster tried to find creative ways to step across but eventually
we both stopped to take off our shoes every time. On the way back
we gave up and got our shoes wet. The water was ice cold and knee
deep in some places. The weather was beautiful and not too hot (but
not chilly luckily for our feet).

As we went back towards the parking lot the clouds started gathering
and distant thunder started to get a little closer. Uzbekistan is
about 95% Muslim and Friday afternoon is when they have their
equivalent of a church service. So the timing of when our hike ended
meant that we had to wait a little while for the driver.

We brought binoculars on the hike and were ready to look for birds
but we only saw one (blue whistling thrush - pictured). While we
were waiting in the parking lot of a hotel near the trailhead, we
saw dozens! The rain got a little closer while we waited but the
driver made it before it started.
