Crawford Communications Joins MecklerWeb Initiative

INTERNET WORLD, SAN JOSE, Calif., June 1, 1994 -- Crawford Communications announced today that it will be a founding participant in a new business venture being formulated by Mecklermedia Corporation of Westport, Connecticut. Also joining Crawford as charter partners in the project will be companies such as Dun & Bradstreet, Ogilvy & Mather Direct, and Edelman Worldwide Public Relations.

Mecklermedia's new service will be known as MecklerWeb and will be available to users via Internet, the international information infrastructure. According to Christopher Locke, MecklerWeb's chief designer, "MecklerWeb will be a very large Internet-based corporate communication and marketing system serving the needs of business and commerce worldwide." Locke also adds that "By using widely available open systems -- such as the World Wide Web (WWW) and Wide Area Information Servers (WAIS) -- MecklerWeb will constitute a single point of first recourse for tens of millions of Internet users who would otherwise be unable to locate appropriate business and professional information resources." The global Internet community will be able to access MecklerWeb at no cost.

As one of the nation's largest teleproduction facilities, Crawford Communications will be available to offer advertisers on MecklerWeb a diversity of audio and video production resources to enhance their product or service message. Crawford currently serves the broadcast, corporate, and advertising agency marketplaces with a team of nearly 250 highly skilled professionals. These professionals provide expertise in the areas of interactive multimedia design and programming, computer graphics and animation, audio and video post production, foreign standards conversions, production support, and satellite technology.

Crawford Executive Vice President, Paul Hansil states, "At Crawford, we continually strive to be at the forefront of emerging technologies. I believe that our association with MecklerWeb will allow us to utilize these technologies in an exciting new venue. Hansil adds, "There is probably no other teleproduction company more qualified than Crawford to provide MecklerWeb clientele with such a variety of production resources. The same level of creativity we employed to develop the animated opening for The Tonight Show on NBC or AT&T's "You Will" series of television commercials, will now be available to assist companies in showcasing their products and services to global Internet audiences."

Complete details on MecklerWeb and Crawford will be announced at the Internet World '94 Conference to be held at The San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, California on June 1st. The MecklerWeb launch will be held between 1:30 and 3:00 p.m. with a press reception immediately following.
