Desperado (Robert Rodriguez)

Rating: 3.0

Technically a sequel to/remake of EL MARIACHI, this plays more like a
John Woo film transplanted to a Mexican border town. However, that's not
such a bad idea, and Rodriguez pulls it off, mostly. Basically a series
of spectacular action set pieces framed by an inconsequential (and
frequently stupid) narrative, but the set pieces are, indeed,
spectacular, and the editing is something to behold (it's definitely
Rodriguez's strength). Great score, too. Not quite as endearing as the
original, but just as enjoyable, albeit for entirely different reasons.
