River of Grass (Kelly Reichardt)

Rating: 3.5

Terrific low-budget film that turns the tired lovers-on-the-run genre on
its ear (and about time, too). Witty, unpredictable, and somehow
simultaneously energetic and lowkey; hampered only by some intrusive
first-person narration (almost any film featuring first-person narration
is hampered by it, I find). Features one of the most surprising
conclusions I've ever seen, all the more impressive for not being the
slightest bit gimmicky...not so much a twist as a short sharp shock.
