Film and Television
- Latest News on the DHA and Film front: I have been
accepted into the Intensive Film Editing certificate program at
New York University (although I warn you, the web page for
this seems a little off...). This is exciting and a bit
anxiety-provoking (mainly due, as many of my friends can
probably attest, to the concept of having to be all the way
downtown and coherent at 9am every morning :-). I am looking
forward to it, though. With any luck, this is but the first
step in my career in some aspect of film. I'm not sure yet if
I'm going to head into edtiting, preservation or some other
kind of film work from here, but one step at a time. Wish me luck.
- Doctor Who - One of the best science fiction
shows ever on television, not to mention the longest running one (note to
fans of other sf shows: please do not attack me. I don't intend the
previous comment as a dismissal of other shows. This is just a personal
opinion here (well, the "longest running" bit, I suppose, is based on
actual facts...)). Many of the show's stories are available on video, with
more on the way. Additionally, there are all kinds of technical points that
fascinate fans of the show, so naturally I've gravitated towards it (as any
of my friends can probably tell you, I'm a big fan of useless facts and
nit-picky little details). I could probably go on for pages and pages, but
if you follow the links, you'll find people who've beaten me to it.
- Monty
Python - One of the funniest comedy teams the world has ever
known. Other British
comedy is pretty brilliant, also. If you need direction leading
from Python, I might suggest The
Goon Show, which inspired them, and The Bonzo Dog Band, which was co-founded by Neil Innes, who worked extensively with the Pythons, not to mention his involvement with The Rutles.
- Film Forum - One of the few revival cinemas left in this city that once had so many. Supported by public funds and membership fees, this is one of the more important film resources that New York City has to offer (and, despite climbing ticket prices, membership tickets have not risen in cost for I can't remember how long - this is a good thing).
