Comments:
ASA kept me very busy. They never paid me less then my asking price of $15/hr. The only problem was I was sent out on numerous jobs to answer a telephone instead of my requested word processing. When they call, they always first ask, "Are you available?" If you say yes, then they tell you about the job. It is difficult to turn it down after you just told them you were available. They make it difficult for you to make demands without feeling like you'll be labeled a troublemaker. The job descriptions never matched the jobs they send you out on. They advertise they have great jobs but this is just to lure temps in to register with them. They need a large pool of registered temps to sell themselves to their clients. But, after a while you realize they have nothing but phone jobs. Miriam, my counselor, called me up 3 times in one day to offer me crappy phone jobs. I said no to all of them. Miriam asked me if I was afraid of the telephone. This is a bad trap to get in! to because if you do a good job at phones, they'll keep you doing phones. And if you do a poor job, you get dumped. It is also easy to fall into the trap of doing phones while you're computer skills deteriorate. Finally, Miriam called offering me a job with ADVANCED computer skills. She had to check my file to see if I was qualified. I was very happy when she told me I would be perfect for the job. It paid $16/hr. for 3 months.

I showed up eager to start my job at The Related Capital Company, a large uptown Real Estate Company. I was put in a cubicle. Period. That was the job. I'm not exaggerating. Someone must of called down to Human Resources and said cubicle #J4378 is empty - send up a body. In other word, I soon realized if they had just gotten rid of my desk and chair, they wouldn't have had to hire anyone. There was no computer. No one gave me anything to do. This is another bad trap to fall into, to get paid $16/hr. to do nothing. I got very angry but had no one to vent my anger at. I developed a bad habit of grinding my teeth to the point where I woke up one morning and my jaws were locked shut. It cost me two paychecks (I lost my health insurance when I lost my career) to have an orthodonist make a dental plate to ease the pain in my jaw. Then I fell into a major depression. (Depression is a serious illness and I don't mean to make light of it). But, this is one of the few job! s being depressed helps. I just had to sit there. Finally, Miriam called to tell me the job had ended. She offered me more work, but I opened my mouth wide and said ---------NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
