Xi'an, China

I traveled to Xi'an in September 2001 with other U.S. Copyright Office officials as guests of the National Copyright Administration of China for a three-city study tour.  The other two destinations were Beijing and Shanghai.

Ever since I saw a National Geographic cover article in the 70's about the amazing -- and accidental -- archeological find near Xi'an, I've wanted to go there.  Finally, on September 11, 2001, I made what would be for me one of the most memorable visits to any site anywhere in the world.  Unfortunately, shortly after dinner that evening, the date would become memorable for wholly unrelated reasons.

Rank upon rank of terra cotta soldiers, each one unique, that have been unearthed in Pit 1.
