June 22-24, Camping Trip, Fairview Lake YMCA Camps, Stillwater NJ
Fairview Lake YMCA Camp is a very special camping experience! Just set up at our very private and large waterfront group site, and the camp will provide organized programs for the group, or you can arrange to hike on your own. The camp sits on mile-long Fairview Lake in Northwestern New Jersey. Their 600 acres adjoin the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, providing access to the Appalachian Trail, the Delaware River, unlimited hiking possibilities and breathtaking views. A fleet of canoes, rowboats and kayaks offer a wide variety of water activities. This is a great weekend for kids! The camp will schedule, just for our group, swimming, boating, hiking, indoor and outdoor climbing wall sessions, low and high ropes courses, archery, arts and crafts, and other activities. We have reserved a large camping area near the far side of the lake with a fire ring, tables, bathroom and showers, and even unheated cabin/shelters we can occupy if the weather doesn't totally cooperate!

To reserve a spot, send a check for $2 made out to Campers' Group, to: Campers' Group, 48 S. High Street Mt. Vernon, NY 10550. Once the organizer or a trip leader is notified of receipt of your check, you will be added to the RSVP list. For immediate inclusion, pay $2.39 via PayPal on the meetup.com page for this trip. The payment of $2 ($2.39 by Paypal) is for one adult or child, which only pays the Campers' Group fee. You must DOWNLOAD AND PRINT A FORM (TBD), fill it out, and mail it in with a check for $54, payable to Fairview Lake YMCA Camps, or provide your credit card information.

June 28-July 2, Canoe/Kayak Camping Trip, Indian Lake Islands, Sabael NY
Beautiful, wild, forested islands offering wilderness camping and some of the best recreational boating in the Adirondacks, Indian Lake Islands Campground is located on the southern shore of 4,365-acre Indian Lake. The opportunity to camp on an island or along the shore of Indian Lake makes this one of the most popular camping destinations in the Adirondacks. All of the large, well-forested campsites offer privacy. Indian Lake Islands Campground offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including canoeing and boating, hiking, fishing, and picnicking.

Here is the campground map and guide and a helpful kayak camping gear guide.

Canoes and kayaks can be rented near the beach or campground office on the mainland. It is approximately a 2 mile paddle from the boat launch to our island. All paddlers are required to wear a proper fitting PFD (life jacket). We have reserved 5 out of 6 campsites (34-38) on the big island (Long Island). Each site has a picnic table and firepit, and is limited to 6 individuals or two tents. RSVPs are per tent, NOT per person. Please try to share to allow more to attend. All equipment must be set up on the designated area of the site only. Pit toilets are available on the island. A new shower/bath house is available for use near the boat launch.

It will be important to plan your packing carefully. If kayaking in, pack very light, as if backpacking. If paddling a canoe, more equipment can be taken (checklist).
Firewood can be purchased at the campground or at a local vendor, and then will need to be transported across the lake in a boat to the campsites.

There is NO cell service on the lake. A 20 minute drive, from the boat launch, may be needed to make a cell call. There is a pay phone at adjacent Lewey Lake Campground.

*** RSVPs are per tent, NOT per person. Please try to share to allow more to attend. ***

A NY State fishing license (purchased in town) is required for anyone over age of 16. Licenses are NOT available for purchase at campground.
The address listed here is not the exact location of the boat launch parking lot on Lewey Lake Campsite Road. GPS coordinates are: 43.651841, -74.387662
Check-in starts at 12:00 pm on Thursday, check-out is 11:00am Monday. You are welcome to arrive any time Thursday or Friday, but when arriving you must get packed and be ready to paddle to get to a campsite before dark. When you RSVP, you are paying for the 4-night weekend.

To reserve a spot for one tent, send a check for $58.00 made out to Campers' Group, to: Campers' Group, 48 S. High Street Mt. Vernon, NY 10550. Once the organizer or a trip leader is notified of receipt of your check, you will be added to the RSVP list. For immediate inclusion, pay $59.90 via PayPal on the meetup.com page for this trip.

We'll be camping at a group site, right on the Delaware River. Paddlers can bring their own kayak, or rent from a nearby outfitter. You can also fish from the boat launch near the campsite (NJ fishing license required). Hikers can climb up to the Appalachian Trail, and Sunfish Pond, an unspoiled glacial lake, or visit the Mohican Outdoor Center for nearby swimming or lake boating on Catfish Pond. On one or more mornings, we may plan a moderately strenuous hike (TBD), or an easy to moderate paddle on the river. Chemical toilets are close to the site, flush toilets and showers are in another part of the park. Quiet hours are 10 P.M. to 6 A.M. Alcohol is not permitted in NJ State Parks.

July 13-15, Camping Trip, Delaware River Canoe/Kayak Camping Trip, Milford PA
Join us for a river camping adventure! This 2 night outing requires that you either have a canoe or kayak, or privately arrange with an outfitter to rent one.
For those of us with a river worthy canoe or kayak we will be meeting at the Milford Beach Boat Access at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. There will be a $10 per day (or $30 total) charge to park here. We will then load our boats and get on the river from the boat launch/beach. If you are arranging to rent a canoe/kayak, you will need to be ready to go from here by 1:00 p.m.

Friday and Saturday we will paddle for 3-4 hours each day depending on water levels, wind, group abilities and amount of non paddling time. Camping will be on a primitive sites in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. These sites contain no amenities other than a fire ring. Tent space is limited, please share if possible. Sunday will consist of between 2-3 hours of paddling to the Smithfield Beach Boat Access where we will take the River Runner Delaware Water Gap shuttle back up river to our cars at Milford Beach. Our goal is to catch the 11:40 a.m. shuttle Sunday morning to Milford Beach. The shuttle will take our boats and gear.

You will be required to bring all items needed to camp, such as a tent, sleeping bag, food, water etc. Everything will need to be packed in your canoe/kayak. Sharing of boats , equipment and supplies needs to be preplanned and prearranged. There are no options for purchasing items while on the River.

This section of the Delaware River contains mostly class I rapids and possibly some class II rapids depending upon the water level. You need to have some river paddling experience. There is an inherent risk with river boating, some paddling skill and knowledge is necessary.

A poor weather forecast or poor river conditions will cause this trip to be cancelled or postponed. The hosts, and only the hosts, will announce or even discuss any weather forecasts on the trip page. PLEASE, do not post any weather-related comments. If you must discuss, please message the hosts privately.

When you RSVP, you are paying for one tent, and remember, space is limited. To reserve a spot for one tent, send a check for $10.00 made out to Campers' Group, to: Campers' Group, 48 S. High Street Mt. Vernon, NY 10550. Once the organizer or a trip leader is notified of receipt of your check, you will be added to the RSVP list. July 21-22, Camping/Cabin Trip, Thendara Mtn Club, Harriman State Park NY
Our friends at Thendara Mountain Club have invited us to stay overnight; camping on their grounds, sleeping in a screened in bunk house, or staying in their rustic cabin in Harriman State Park. There is a multi-tent campsite on the property, and a screened-in bunk house with separate mens and womens bunk rooms. (First come, first served for camping, bunkhouse and lodge bedroom space.) The lodge (built 1929) has heat, electricity, a full kitchen, indoor mens and womens washrooms with hot showers, and bathrooms about 50 ft from the cabin. There are seven bedrooms with 2-4 cots each (rooms are shared). The lodge also has a big main room with fireplace, comfortable seating, eating table and screened in porch. Besides hiking, you are welcome to stay on the club's grounds, and swim or boat on Lake Tiorati from the club's supervised boat dock. (Boats are available when you pay the day or overnight fee.) The weekend includes Saturday night dinner, Sunday breakfast and a Sunday bag lunch, paid separately to Thendara when on site. Thendara asks all members and guests to help with a simple chore, like clearing the table, washing or drying dishes, etc. You will be assigned something before dinner.

Arrive Saturday morning to meet up with the group at the lodge, and then carpool to the trail head, if necessary. After the hike we will return to camp for a relaxing happy hour in front of the fire! Dinner will be provided by the Thendara host for this weekend. Diet restrictions can usually be accommodated - just be sure to tell the host when you RSVP. You may set up your tent at the campsite, or sleep in the bunkhouse. The campsite is primitive, and has room for a number of smaller (2-4 person) tents. The bunkhouse has wood platform bunks with mattresses, but bringing a sleeping pad along with your sleeping bag is recommended. Water and the campfire will be by the cabin. (No fires by the campsite, only in the main fire ring by the cabin.) If sleeping in the cabin, you will need to bring a sleeping bag or sheets and pillowcase. There are wool blankets and pillows available. There will also be a local hike on Sunday starting at 11am from camp.

If it is your first time at Thendara, and choose to stay the entire weekend, the total cost will be approximately $45-$50, which will cover meals and lodging for Saturday night (meals are Saturday happy hour and dinner, Sunday breakfast and lunch). YOU MUST RSVP AND SIGN UP FOR MEALS BY WEDNESDAY JULY 19th for the host to know how much and what food to bring and prepare. Also be sure to advise of any food allergies or restrictions.

Day fee* to use the facilities: $10 per day, non-member (paid when you RSVP, plus food deposit, Thendara members pay 1/2 price)

Thendara a la carte fees, paid directly to the Thendara host at the cabin:
Overnight fee*: lodge or bunkhouse - $20 per night (non-member), camping - $16 per person/per night (non-member), no additional day fee to use the facilities (Thendara members pay 1/2 price)
Saturday happy hour: $6 (approx)
Saturday dinner: $14 (approx)
Sunday breakfast, and bag lunch for the trail: $10 (approx)

*Members and guests children, 12-17, pay adult member rate. Members and guests children, under age 12, pay 1/2 adult member rate.
(Meal fees are approximate; final amount will depend on what the host brings and prepares.)

You can take the train or bus to Sloatsburg and can either hike in, ride a bike up scenic Seven Lakes Drive, or we can arrange to have someone from camp with a car meet you at the station. Feel free to bring a spouse, date, friend and well behaved kids, but sorry, no pets.

To reserve a spot, send a check for $20 made out to Campers' Group, to: Campers' Group, 48 S. High Street Mt. Vernon, NY 10550. Various maps are available here. Nearby are the Jersey shore communities of Sea Bright, Monmouth Beach and Long Branch. Asbury Park and Red Bank are a short drive. RSVPs are per tent, not per person. When you RSVP on Meetup please post a comment indicating who else will be in your tent, if anyone. Additionally, Sandy Hook charges a $15 entrance fee per vehicle. One car is allowed to park at each site, and there is overflow parking within a short walk, however, we hear the parking lot fills quickly on weekends. You may have to park remotely if you leave your spot, or arrive on Saturday. Car pooling and tent sharing is encouraged. Click here for ferry service from NYC. There are very limited provisions at Sandy Hook. Please have everything you need before arriving on the island. As this will be our first time in this campground we may not be able to answer all your questions. Pets are not allowed on our sites. You are encouraged to visit this Sandy Hook website for any questions you may have. Also, find information on the latest alerts and conditions here. Please note that we cannot control the weather, traffic, rare beach closings, or the occasional wait to get into a crowded park on the weekends. We strongly recommend that you arrive on Thursday or Friday, and early!

RSVPs are per tent, not per person. To reserve a spot, send a check for $62 made out to Campers' Group, to: Campers' Group, 48 S. High Street Mt. Vernon, NY 10550.
