North/South Lake State Park

North/South Lake State Park
Haines Falls, NY

The campground is near North Lake. South Lake is a day use area. I've heard this is the second most popular park in N.Y. State for camping. (Does anyone know which park is #1?) So the park is always full on Summer weekends. There are flush toilets and hot showers.

You can hike or bicycle. Swimming is permitted during the Summer. From the park, you can get to the Escarpment Trail that leads to Kaaterskill Falls. You can also see the site of the old Kaaterskill Hotel.

Driving directions: From the south, take the NY State Thruway north to Exit 20 (Saugerties). Go left onto New York Route 212 for several hundred yards and make a right onto Route 32 North. Six miles later when Route 32 forks, take 32A (the main road). Turn left onto Route 23A West and go to the town of Haines Falls. In Haines Falls, make the first right turn onto County Road 18 (you won't see the sign that says 18 until you turn) and go two more miles to the park office.

From the north, take the NYS Thruway to exit 21 and turn left on Route 23 East. Turn onto Route 9W South, go through the town of Catskill to Route 23A West and follow the directions above to the park office.
