Tobyhanna State Park

Tobyhanna State Park
Tobyhanna, PA

The park is 5,440 acres including a 170-acre lake. It adjoins Goldboro State Park. Tobyhanna's elevation is 2,000 feet, so the nights will be cool even in the Summer.

Swimming is permitted from Memorial Day to Labor Day on Tobyhanna Lake. Non-powered and electric boats are also permitted on the lake. You can fish for bass, brook trout, pickerel, yellow perch, catfish and bluegills.

There are 12 miles of hiking trails including a 5-mile loop around Tobyhanna Lake. The Frank Gantz trail, which is the most difficult in the park, connects with the trail system of Goldsboro State Park.

There is a 140-site family camping area and five group sites. There are no flush toilets or showers in the park.

Tobyhanna State Park was formerly an artillery range for the U.S. Army. Visitors to the more remote sections of the park should be aware that they may come across unexploded artillery shells.

Driving directions: Take Interstate 80 West into Pennsylvania. Follow 80 to Interstate 380 West to exit 7. Pick up 423 North and drive for 3 miles till you see the park entrance on the left. To get to the group sites, enter where it says "park office", make a quick left through the yellow gate and turn right at parking lot #4 (the first parking area). Go to end of the lot and park on the left.
