Home Made Pedialyte
Here is a recipe for homemade Pedialyte. It is very important for babies and children not to become dehydrated when they're sick! Use instead of juice or milk for diarrhea, vomiting, and fever. This will not aggravate a sick tummy.Version 1
This version is recommended by WHO and UNICEF3.5 gms sodium chloride (common salt)
2.9 gms trisodium citrate dihydrate (or 2.5 gms sodium bicarbonate - baking soda)
1.5 gms potassium chloride
20 gms glucose (anhydrous)
Total 27.5 gms
The above ingredients are to be dissolved in one litre of clean water.
Version 2
* 2 quarts water* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 7 Tablespoons sugar
* 1 packet Sugar-Free Kool-Aid
* 1/2 teaspoon salt substitute
The salt substitute and Kool-Aid are optional.
Version 3
1 quart boiled water3 Tbsp. orange or other fruit juice
1 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. corn syrup or golden syrup or sugar syrup
Regardless of which recipe used mixture may be warmed to aid in mixing.
Store in the refrigerator. Be creative; make ice cubes so it will stay cool in their bottle or sippy-cup. Or, insert toothpicks into your ice cubes before freezing and make homemade popsicles.
