{"id":175823,"date":"2020-11-18T19:39:00","date_gmt":"2020-11-19T00:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2020\/11\/18\/oh-lindsey\/"},"modified":"2020-11-18T19:39:00","modified_gmt":"2020-11-19T00:39:00","slug":"oh-lindsey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2020\/11\/18\/oh-lindsey\/","title":{"rendered":"Oh Lindsey\u2026\u2026\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>  Last week, I wrote about reports that   <a href=\"https:\/\/40yrs.blogspot.com\/2020\/11\/yeah-this-is-appalling.html\">Lindsey Graham was pressuring the Georgia Secretary of State to throw out     mail-in ballots from counties with large minority populations using     signature matching as a pretext<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>  It appears that   <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/powerpost\/lindsey-graham-voting-inquiry\/2020\/11\/17\/bb67c33c-2917-11eb-9b14-ad872157ebc9_story.html\">there was at least one other witness to this<\/a>: <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #2b00fe;\">\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #2b00fe;\">  In   <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/brad-raffensperger-georgia-vote\/2020\/11\/16\/6b6cb2f4-283e-11eb-8fa2-06e7cbb145c0_story.html?itid=lk_inline_manual_9\">an interview Monday with <i>The Washington Post<\/i><\/a>, Georgia\u2019s secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger, accused the senator of   trying to pressure him into tossing out legally cast ballots. And Tuesday,   after Graham mistakenly told reporters he had spoken with secretaries of state   in Arizona and Nevada, those officials rejected that assertion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI   have not spoken to Senator Lindsey Graham or any other members of Congress   regarding the 2020 election,\u201d Barbara Cegavske, the Nevada secretary of state,   said in a statement. Cegavske and Raffensperger are Republicans. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #2b00fe;\">&nbsp;\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #2b00fe;\">  Old friends and colleagues issued warnings Tuesday that there is a line Graham   cannot cross with state election officials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf all he\u2019s trying to   do is get information, people are entitled to do that. If he\u2019s trying to   influence the way they perform their duty, that becomes a bit problematic,\u201d   said Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), a former state attorney general. <\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #2b00fe;\">    In Georgia, state officials showed additional irritation Tuesday with     Graham\u2019s intrusion into their world. Gabriel Sterling, a senior staffer in     the secretary of state\u2019s office, <b><span style=\"font-size: 100%; font-variant: small-caps;\">held a news conference to explain what he     heard on the call between Raffensperger and Graham<\/span><\/b>.   <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #2b00fe;\">    \u201cWhat I heard were discussions of absentee ballots \u2014 if there were a     percentage of signatures that weren\u2019t truly matching, is there some point     where we could go to court and throw out all the ballots,\u201d Sterling said.   <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #2b00fe;\">    Such an action would have disenfranchised many legally cast ballots.   <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>(<i>emphasis mine<\/i>)<\/p>\n<p>This is not a good look for you, Mr. Graham. <\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, I wrote about reports that Lindsey Graham was pressuring the Georgia Secretary of State to throw out mail-in ballots from counties with large minority populations using signature matching as a pretext.
