But that did not keep the     55-year-old rancher from winning his race for the state House of     Representatives on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>With     <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2GW4JSL\">an apparent victory<\/a> in North Dakota\u2019s     8th District, Andahl\u2019s election marks an unusual overlap between two of the     most consequential events in the United States this year: a pandemic that     has     <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/graphics\/2020\/national\/coronavirus-us-cases-deaths\/?itid=lk_inline_manual_4\">killed at least 232,000 people<\/a>    in the United States and the unprecedented election season it upended in the     process.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p>A cattle rancher and land developer,     Andahl had spent 16 years serving on the zoning and planning commission in     Burleigh County, including eight years as its chair,     <a href=\"https:\/\/bismarcktribune.com\/news\/local\/govt-and-politics\/bismarck-area-legislative-candidate-died-of-covid-19-path-could-be-complicated-if-andahl-wins\/article_dc86c323-de71-5235-9fa0-04a85fd21481.html\">according to<\/a>    the Bismarck Tribune. Earlier this year, he won a heated GOP primary against     longtime state Rep. Jeff Delzer, who chaired the chamber\u2019s powerful     Appropriations Committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p>When the coronavirus     reached North Dakota, Andahl \u2014 who was already grappling with several health     issues \u2014 was \u201cvery cautious,\u201d his family<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/DavidAndahlND\/posts\/189608202604615\">      wrote on Facebook<\/a>. They did not elaborate on what medical challenges he was facing.<\/p>\n<p>As     the largely rural state saw a sharp increase in coronavirus cases this fall     \u2014 at one point leading the country in the number of new cases per capita \u2014     Andahl contracted the potentially deadly virus. After four days in the     hospital, he died Oct. 5.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/ga8GIrf.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/ga8GIrf.gif\" style=\"cursor: pointer; float: right; margin: 0px 0px 10px 10px;\" width=\"250\" \/><\/a>  The Democratic Party lost to a dead man, and right now, it&#8217;s still not settled   in the Presidential campaign when they are running against a man whose brain   serves only as a launch pad for his hair.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>  The current Democratic Party establishment (There is no Democratic Party   establishment) is incredibly, and ineluctably, incompetent.<\/p>\n<p>We cold fire them all and replace them with drinking bird toys, and get better results.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In North Dakota, the uncool Dakota, a dead man won a seat in the state house.
