{"id":175977,"date":"2020-10-07T21:32:00","date_gmt":"2020-10-08T02:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2020\/10\/07\/pass-the-popcorn-3\/"},"modified":"2020-10-07T21:32:00","modified_gmt":"2020-10-08T02:32:00","slug":"pass-the-popcorn-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2020\/10\/07\/pass-the-popcorn-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Pass the Popcorn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>  &nbsp;A federal appeals court just   <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/trump-tax-returns\/2020\/10\/07\/256e64ae-0265-11eb-a2db-417cddf4816a_story.html\">called bullsh%$ on Trump&#8217;s attempt to use his being President<sup>*<\/sup>    to prevent investigation of tax evasion and fraud<\/a>. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>  <span style=\"color: #2b00fe;\">The excerpts of the opinion indicate that the judges have no f%$#s left to     give with either Trump&#8217;s lawyers or the DoJ obfuscations:<\/p>\n<p>A     federal appeals court ruled Wednesday that Manhattan&#8217;s district attorney can     enforce his subpoena for President Trump&#8217;s tax returns, rejecting a bid by     Trump&#8217;s lawyers to kill the request on grounds it&#8217;s a malicious political     ploy and potentially setting up another high-stakes showdown at the Supreme     Court.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The     unanimous ruling was issued by a three-judge panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit     Court of Appeals, which concluded, &#8220;<b><span style=\"font-size: 100%; font-variant: small-caps;\">We have considered all of the     President&#8217;s remaining contentions on appeal and have found in them no basis     for reversal<\/span><\/b>.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>(<i>emphasis mine<\/i>)<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s law speak for, &#8220;Your eyes are brown because you are completely full of sh%$.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #2b00fe;\">District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. is seeking     eight years of the president\u2019s tax returns and related documents as part of     his investigation into alleged hush-money payments made ahead of the 2016     election to two women who said they had affairs with Trump years prior.     Trump denies the claims. Investigators want to determine whether efforts     were made to conceal the payments on tax documents by labeling them legal     expenses.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The panel that heard the president&#8217;s appeal shot down his     claim that the district attorney&#8217;s investigation is limited only to the     alleged payments made by Michael Cohen, Trump&#8217;s former lawyer, to adult-film     actress Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal \u2014 saying in     <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/context\/read-the-ruling-donald-j-trump-v-cyrus-r-vance-jr-and-mazars-usa\/1d3cbc09-71d4-44d5-8489-aef0bbe5d112\/?itid=lk_inline_manual_11\">their ruling<\/a>    that the &#8220;bare assertion .\u2009.\u2009. amounts to nothing more than implausible     speculation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Vance\u2019s bid for     Trump\u2019s tax records has been stalled since last year, when he issued the     subpoena to Mazars.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s lawyers, who have signaled that they     would ask the Supreme Court to look at the case again, have     <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/courts_law\/supreme-court-trump-tax-returns-financial-records\/2020\/07\/09\/8f274352-c1e2-11ea-9fdd-b7ac6b051dc8_story.html\">already lost at the high court<\/a>, which in July rejected their initial argument that, as president, Trump     is immune from prosecution.
